Chess Pie

I can’t believe that I haven’t shared this recipe with you yet! I mean…really. It’s one of my favorites and I have turned it into a favorite for Jon, as well. He had never heard of, or tasted, this delicious pie until we started dating. My grandmother gave me this recipe years ago and has been a favorite in my family for a long time.

Without further ado, meet the delectable Chess Pie:

Looks good, eh? It is. But don’t take my word for it — make it and try it for yourself! Here’s what you need:

  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of flour
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

How to put it together:

  • Preheat your oven to between 325 and 350 degrees (I do 350)
  • Mix all ingredients together and pour into your pie crust
  • Bake for 40 minutes
  • Allow to cool before slicing…if you can

You can alternatively make a Fudge Chess Pie:

You need to add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the above recipe to get a fabulous chocolate-lovers pie.

Between the “original” and the fudge pies, Jon prefers the fudge. I can lean either way. I’m used to my grandmother making it the original way…but you can’t go wrong with chocolate!

Give a shot and let me know what you think.
