I enjoy a really good steak. As Jon has said, the fact that I enjoy meat was never strike against me when he looked at me as a potential mate (and, for the record, still works in my favor). While I am really like white meat, every now and again, I crave a delicious and juicy steak.
Unfortunately, I have almost always had to go out to get a steak that meets my standards. Its not that Jon can’t cook a great steak – he can. Dad always cooked a great steak, too. But they cook their steaks on the grill. And I think that is where their steaks differ from this one, that has far surpassed any steak I have ever had outside of a restaurant. This steak was seared on the stove top and cooked in the oven.
And it was delicious.
It was juicy.
It was tender.
It was just how I like my steaks.
Dare I say it – these have been better than a restaurant steak.
Kids grow so darn fast, don’t they? Our little guy is only 2 but he’s already over 3 feet tall and continuing up the ladder quickly. Pretty soon, I’ll be looking up to him (he just better remember who carried him for 9 months, birthed him, and then carried him for even longer than 9 months!).
I can easily recall his birth statistics. 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and 21.5 inches long. But as he is getting older (and taller), I love having something tangible to compare that length to. And I love being able to see how he grows through the years. And, Lord willing, should we add to our family, I would love to see how all of our children grow throughout the years. Should we ever move, I also want a way to take those memories with us, rather than leave them behind on a door frame or a wall.
I have seen growth rulers in stores costing upwards of $100 (and that’s the least expensive I’ve seen…yikes!) and these projects are plentiful on Pinterest (a dangerous but oh-so-fun hole that I can get lost in for hours!). Putting together what I’ve seen in these various places and mixing in my own ideas, I came up with my very own growth ruler. I’m going to share with you the first way that I did this project and then I will share a few variations I have done or that you can incorporate into making your very own growth ruler.
Before we begin, we need to gather all the supplies we’re going to need. Some of these you may have around your house if you’re a crafter, DIY-er, or if you (or your husband) enjoy woodworking. But you will more than likely still need to make a trip to your local home improvement store and your local craft store for a few items. Continue reading Wooden Growth Ruler→
Last November, our family went on a Caribbean cruise! I had been on a cruise 10 years earlier and loved it. This was the first time Bug and Jon went sailing into the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. My sweet husband was reluctant to go so far from the safety of land but I (and in the end, he) was so glad he did! (As he put it, he has seen Titanic. And it did not end well.)
Even as excited as we were (…I was), there was still much trepidation about traveling with a toddler. We had ventured to Canada to visit Jon’s family 4 months before the cruise which helped us prepare. We were able to get a better grasp on what we would need to bring for Bug – and our test-run was done where we were able to get something if we forgot. (Of course, in the middle of the ocean, you’re out of luck if you need something.)
The little Bug loves moving. All.the.time. He cannot sit still and I am exhausted trying to keep up with him all day (I know…I know…”just wait until he’s walking”). Speaking of that…he is so close to walking independently. He will walk while we are holding his hands/arms with no issue but he still does not walk with his walker or along furniture. We think it is a confidence issue and a weight distribution issue (too tall and skinny…lol). However, we think he will get it very soon. There is little doubt in our minds. When he does, there will be no stopping him. Continue reading Micah: 10 months→
Weight: ~15 pounds Likes Moving and grooving! The Bug is on the move! While he has mastered moving around by rolling and army crawling for several months now, he has picked up a lot of speed. He is across the room in 10 seconds or less. No longer are the days that we can set him down long enough to switch a load of laundry and come back to find him in the same place. He is also a fan of the solids we have been trying. Although he has not been too adventuresome, he has enjoyed most of what he has tried. Our new food is yogurt – and that, I do believe, has been the biggest hit of all of the foods. Continue reading Micah: 9 months→
This sweet little boy loves to smile at everyone. He is a huge flirt with the ladies, it does not matter whether that is at the grocery check out, the church nursery, or walking around the neighborhood. He is a flirt.
Micah also loves to giggle and watch his puppies. Jax is, by far, the most humorous to watch; Marble is the most fun to grab and hold onto. Both dogs are such good natured about Bug interacting with them, for which we are thankful. Continue reading Micah: 8 months→
Bug loves observing his world. He enjoys looking at everything and refuses to simply kick back and watch things go by him. He loves riding in the cart at stores but struggles to enjoy facing backwards, and is most often twisting himself so he can see where he is going (when facing backwards, the view doesn’t change much as all he sees are Mommy or Daddy). This little guy is such a flirt, too. He loves grinning and talking to all of the ladies he encounters (we’re going to have to watch out for him as he gets older…..). This guy loves his puppies. He is amused highly by their playing, roughhousing, and general silliness. His favorite thing to do is sit in his jumper and watch Mommy or Daddy play with the puppies while he laughs hysterically. Bug loves his bedtime routine: Daddy comes home from work and they go play in his room before his bedtime meal. Continue reading Micah: 6 months→
Bug is really learning to explore the world. He loves looking around at things and carefully investigating different objects, all from the security of Mommy and Daddy’s arms. About a month ago, we got a jumper for him and he loves it. Continue reading Micah: 5 months→
Micah still loves Mommy. He loves to snuggle with her and would do it all day if he could! He does love Daddy and enjoys quality time with him every morning before Daddy leaves for work. (Micah’s favorite part of the day!). Continue reading Micah: 4 months→
