The Best Steak You Will Ever Eat

I enjoy a really good steak. As Jon has said, the fact that I enjoy meat was never strike against me when he looked at me as a potential mate (and, for the record, still works in my favor). While I am really like white meat, every now and again, I crave a delicious and juicy steak.

The Best Steak You'll Ever EatUnfortunately, I have almost always had to go out to get a steak that meets my standards. Its not that Jon can’t cook a great steak – he can. Dad always cooked a great steak, too. But they cook their steaks on the grill. And I think that is where their steaks differ from this one, that has far surpassed any steak I have ever had outside of a restaurant. This steak was seared on the stove top and cooked in the oven.

And it was delicious.

It was juicy.

It was tender.

It was just how I like my steaks.

Dare I say it – these have been better than a restaurant steak.

My kitchen must haves – Part 1

If you are new here, I love to cook. Based on my recent posts, you may not be able to tell that – but I’ve had something preoccupying my mind lately.

Anyway, I have…for a while now…wanted to share with you the top 5 items I have in my kitchen that I love. As much as I love cooking and baking, I have a list of things that I need in order to make my experience in the kitchen that much easier. Chicken & Dumplings ~ Cracker Barrel Style

I am a very big fan of good, southern-style cooking. I grew up on that kind of food. It’s good-for-the-heart cooking…but not really every good for the heart. I love making this type of food, and recipes I would classify as southern-style litter my cookbook. However, sometimes you just don’t want to cook these types of dishes and you have to go out in search of them. One of my favorite places to get this delicious southern-style cooking is Cracker Barrel. My favorite meal there is their chicken and dumplings dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, biscuits and a sweet tea. I don’t even have to look at the menu when I go.

Sometimes, though, I get a craving for chicken and dumplings. (This happens when you’re pregnant…the cravings, I mean.) We have 2 Cracker Barrel restaurants within a reasonable distance to us – but neither is really convenient. Pumpkin Pie

It may not be fall, but this cold weather makes it seem appropriate to bake up some delicious pumpkin pie!

I have always enjoyed pumpkin pie — but I have never made my own. I got to thinking about it and I couldn’t believe I had never baked a pumpkin pie! As a result of my misguided steps in never making this delectable dessert, I went hunting for a recipe that I could try out. After all, I was not going to use the canned pumpkin pie mix. I want to put a little effort into it. And this was the end result:

Breakfast Potatoes

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: breakfast foods are one of our favorite foods in this house. From cinnamon roll waffles, to scrambled eggs, to potatoes, we love it! Breakfast for dinner is a common theme around here. The potatoes are a favorite of mine. Jon enjoys them, too — but I am the potato-aholic in this family. I could live off potatoes and be happy.

Pepper Ranch Cheese Ball

In December, for a gathering with friends, I made a cheese ball — the same cheese ball as someone else who attended! To be fair, I got the recipe from her 2 years ago…but still! What are the odds?

So why did two of us make the same cheese ball? (Well, I made a cheese ball because I got some adorable cheese spreaders for Christmas. But that’s beyond the point…) Because it’s delish. And easy to make. That is all that needs to be said. I mean, what more needs to be said.
